Healthy Friendships and Relationships: We Attract What We Believe - The Calm Collective

Do you ever notice how the people closest to you are similar to you in personality?  It makes sense, I suppose. We want to be around people that we can relate to and provide ourselves with healthy friendships and relationships.

My best friend, Jamie, is one of the happiest people that I know.  She just wakes up that way, and though there are days where she has to fight to keep that mentality, it just comes naturally to her. Optimism is the approach she takes, and everyone around her sticks to her like glue.

I was one of those people when we first met 5 years ago. Totally stuck.

I’ve since learned so much from her, and she’s a great source of inspiration for me when things get rough.  You know that whole saying of “WWJD?” I replace the J for Jesus with Jamie, and I say it to myself often. It works! Because for years, I’ve always wanted to be that way – happy by nature. Easy going and care free. Optimistic with my glass half full.

We attract what we believe.

Jamie believes that optimism wins out, that people are inherently good, and that yoga heals.

Because of this, Jamie has two beautiful children with some of the sweetest personalities on Earth, a partner who not only adores her – but respects her, a colorful cozy home, a fruitful career working in the creative field, and is loved by everyone that she knows.

And would you believe it? Everyone in Jamie’s life is happy and inherently good.

We attract what we believe.

Healthy Friendships and Relationships: We Attract What We Believe - The Calm Collective

I believe that small talk services no one, that creativity is therapeutic, that everyone is just looking for a little grace, that “busy” is an ugly word, and that self care is anything but selfish.

Because of this, the people I choose to have conversations with often times end up becoming dear friends — or we end up helping each other in some profound way.  My creativity was turned into a career, which still remains my passion because I’ve chosen to protect it as such. My relationships are quick to forgive and provide the space for change and growth, and my self care routine has made me a better person inside and out— more loving, compassionate and empathetic towards those around me.

And would you believe it? Everyone in my life is open minded, creative and calm.

We attract what we believe.
