Hi loves! Happy Thursday. So I know I recorded this episode a couple of weeks ago, but I never got around to pushing it out on the blog — so that’s what I’m doing here today! If you’ve already listened, awesome (and thank you! I love you!) If you haven’t yet, that’s totally okay, too. Allow me to give you a little background on what this episode is all about, and why it might be a good one to sink yourself into if you’ve got 10 minutes to spare. (well, 11 minutes to be exact!)
Not long ago, I was listening to another podcast (one of my favorites) when one of her guests threw me a major light bulb moment. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always struggled with the concept that we’re designed and able to just wake up and decide to be happy. Was it really that easy? If so, I was awful at it, and for as long as I can remember, in the back of my head I thought there was maybe something wrong with me.
It’s never been that easy in my world.
You can’t log into Pinterest without seeing quotes like “if you want to be happy, be” or “just choose happiness”. Well, yeah! Who doesn’t want that? But there’s a disconnect in there somewhere. Choosing an emotion is just too good to be true.
And that’s when the guest on the podcast said it and stopped me in my tracks (literally, I was on the treadmill):
“You must choose the action that leads to the emotion.”
I’m not kidding when I tell you that tears welted in my eyes due to utter relief. That was it, that was the release I needed to stop telling myself that I was a little broken. Not even close. I was just going about all of this the wrong way. I was missing the most crucial step..
This episode dives into more detail on this theory, and I share with you my own personal thoughts as well as a glimpse into my life when it comes to applying this method. If you have 11 minutes today, I highly encourage you to listen to this episode as I whole heartily believe you’ll be able to resonate with it, too.
YOU CAN LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE OVER HERE ON ITUNES OR RIGHT HERE IF YOU DON’T HAVE APPLE PRODUCTS.
PS: if you have a few seconds, I would be so incredibly grateful if you’d be willing to hop on over to iTunes and give the Podcast a 5 star review and leave a quick sentence or two of what you think. Your feedback helps the podcast to grow organically, and find it’s way into the laps of those who may also be on their own journey towards living a slower, more mindful life. xx
