What You Need To Know About Emotional Validation - The Calm Collective

In case no one has told you lately, allow me:

Every single feeling that you have, is valid.

Yep, every single one. 

Please, I beg you – disregard anyone who’s ever told you that “you’re not making any sense” or has said “why on Earth are you crying?” or “you’re so sensitive” or “there’s no reason for you to be mad” or “shouldn’t you be over this by now?”

These people? They’re still learning. That’s all.

The important thing to remember is to feel the feeling, honor the feeling, and to release the feeling.

This, I believe, is where we as humans get stuck.

We either a) harbor and harness our emotions so tightly, like a security blanket, that we often forget to let them go. To breathe them out like stale air trapped in our lungs that’s no longer needed.

b) we let others tell us how we should be feeling to the point where we can no longer decipher what’s real and what isn’t. What’s ours and what’s theirs.

or c) we let others shame us for how we’re feeling to the point where we actually believe that the emotions we’re exuding are invalid. Which can lead to making it feel like we as a person, are invalid.

What You Need To Know About Emotional Validation - The Calm Collective

Please hear me when I say this: you are anything but invalid.

So long as you’ve expressed and you’ve honored the feeling at hand, all that’s required of you now, is to release. 

The next time you find yourself in a situation that brings up big feelings, say these 3 words, in sequence, to yourself:

Feel. Honor. Release.

I think, I hope, you’ll find that the feeling all of a sudden doesn’t seem so big, so scary, so taxing – on the contrary.. it feels freeing.

There’s never any need to imprison or shove down the emotion(s) that you have lingering in your heart space. They’re valid, they’re yours, and they deserve to be heard by whomever needs to hear them (even if that’s just your journal). 

But for the betterment of your livelihood, your mindfulness practice, and the people who show up every day to love you to their greatest ability – feel them with respect. 

Feel. Honor. Release.

It’s as simple as that.
