My Morning Skincare Routine: Updated Spring 2019

Since this is always changing, I thought it was due time for me to fill you all in on what my morning skincare routine has been looking like these days. It’s all about this one thing for me lately:

Hydration.

My skin has been feeling super dry for the past few months, so I’m being really proactive in giving it as much moisture as possible. Here’s what that’s been looking like!

First, I wash my face with Damn Good Face Wash Oil Cleanser: The Works

I’m a lifer and have been using this magical stuff for years now. Nothing has ever agreed with my skin more, and it’s just a part of my every day that I look forward to. I use it both in the morning and at night, and a little bit goes a long way. 

Tip: I get my face wet, add the cleanser, massage it into my face, splash some water on my face, but I don’t worry about getting all of the oil off with water. It’s difficult, and it’ just not going to happen. I use a clean washcloth and wipe the access oil off that way. It leaves my skin feeling SO soft, and gets all of the makeup off with ease.  (I buy packs of washcloths from Amazon and just wash them all with hot water in the laundry each week)

Then, I add Vitamin C serum with retinol.

It’s been about 2 months now that I’ve been using this serum and I love it. It smells so good, it’s super safe, and it leaves my face feeling super bright so on those days where I’m not wearing makeup, I don’t worry about my skin looking dull. Again a little goes a long way, so I do about 1/2 a dropper and then lightly press it all over my skin, chest and neck.

Immediately after the Vitamin C oil, I add French Girl Lavender Oil. 

I love this oil so much, and stock up whenever I find it. It smells like heaven plus it’s super safe. I add a decent amount and then let that soak in before doing my makeup.  This is usually when I’ll make my breakfast, figure out what I’m wearing for the day, clean up around my apartment, etc.

For an extra dose of hydration (which I need often), I use this Dew Mask

I’ll add 3 pumps or so of this Rose Hip + Lotus Dew Face Mask by Whish (that I actually just leave on all day). It smells so, so good and literally feels like I just gave my skin a tall drink of water. I really, really love it. The bonus is that it’s completely safe and free of any and all harmful chemicals. Win/win.

Then I add a dab of Under Eye De-puffer and brightener. 

This under eye brightener by Origin’s is my ALL time favorite.  It’s honestly magic when you apply it – night and day how much it brightens up your under eyes and makes you look incredibly awake. There’s only so much I can say, so really I think you should try it for yourself and see what I mean first hand :) 



Fun(ny) fact: One of my ex’s used to take this from me and use it every morning, ha! That’s how well it works.

I don’t add SPF unless I’m going makeup free, because my tinted moisturizer (that I’ve been using for years) has SPF 30 in it already. But if I’m going bare-faced, I’ll use a dime size of this. 

For all over coverage, I’m a body oil type of gal, and I use this every single day (and night). It smells SO good, gives you a nice little glow, and has no harmful chemicals. If I know I’m going to be outside all day and need some SPF on my skin, I’ll do a light spray with this SPF.  The only one I trust, to be honest. SPF is so gnarly these days.

Other little things that I’ve been doing to add extra moisture to my skin:

These face masks & under eye masks are incredible. I leave them in the fridge and will apply one about 1-2x a week in the morning. By keeping it cold, it immediately gives my skin a little pep talk, wakes me up and leaves me feeling super refreshed. 

I try to go makeup free 2-3x a week to give my skin a break from makeup, and go extra on the face oil.

I drink a TON of water throughout the day. I try to drink 3 liters. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, I have to pee every 10 minutes. But yes, I see a difference. 

I also take this vitamin for my hair, skin and nails and swear it’s a game changer. Maybe it’s a placebo affect, I don’t know and I’m not sure I care — because I feel like I See a difference ;)

I’ve been getting Gua Sha massages by my acupuncturist, and bought one for myself as well to do at home when I apply my serums. 

Lastly, I’ve been scheduling a hydro-facial once a month. Full transparency, I just started doing that this month so I can’t report back on the results just yet, but I’ve dedicated a decent amount of my budget to skincare and health, and I’m loving that more of my money is going towards taking care of my skin and my body rather than clothes.
