Maybe I’m crazy, but the older I get, the more of a morning person I become. I blame the natural light that floods into my loft early in the morning, and the smell of coffee that parades throughout the open ceilings due to the beautiful invention that is the timed coffer maker. But another thing that I blame is the soothing ritual of a morning skincare routine. Before I pour the coffee, I head straight to the bathroom to splash some cold water on my face – no doubt waking me up even just a little – and begin taking care of my skin, step by step.
I’ve always known the value of having a night time skincare routine, but I never really thought much about the mornings. Aside from applying SPF every morning (which is in my makeup routine), all that I would do is splash some water, maybe some under eye brightener, and begin putting on my face for the day, if I was deciding to wear makeup at all. I’ll be the first to tell you that since I started taking this more seriously about 45 days ago, I’ve seen such a difference. I have some light pigmentation from previous hormonal breakouts, and those have lightened so much it’s nuts. I really do think it has to do with my toner and Vitamin C serum that I’ve been applying each day.
Here’s what I use (in order)
- Retina Serum (I get mine from my dermatologist, but this is a really great one that I used to use)
- Vitamin C Serum
- Under Eye Brightening Cream
- Rose Oil Lotion
There was a time where I would wash my face every single morning with whatever face wash I was using at the time, until I heard that over drying can be a main cause of breakouts and dry clean (something I’m prone to), so I put a halt on that entirely. THEN, I heard that using toner in lieu of any sort of soap or cleanser was the best route to take. As I mentioned above, I’ve loved the results thus far (no drying, no irritation). I use a toner from Damn Good Face Wash (I also use the oil based cleanser that smells like a lavender field and feels like butter on your fcae, but that’s another story all together) The toner has a heavy apple cider vinegar scent, so it’s not the most appealing to climb into bed and smooch on your partner, but hey, it works! And once you apply your other products the smell falls by the wayside.
I also got a higher percentage retinal serum from my dermatologist to help with the pigmentation that I mentioned earlier. It’s SUPER intense, so I use the slightest bit each morning all over my face (but avoiding my lips and the corners of my nose and eyes) You can definitely pick some up from your doctor (recommended if you need higher grade), but there are some decent over the counter ones that work really, really well if you’re just looking for age and fine line prevention. Ah, and the under eye brightener. You’ve all heard me talk about this a million times but that’s only because I’m obsessed with it. It’s an instant eye opener, and makes you look so awake. If there’s ever a reason I need to jet out of the house with only like 2 minutes to spare, I’m using those 2 minutes to brush my teeth and apply this magic. A little goes a long way (I’ve had this since December and I’ve still got more than half)
So that’s it! That’s my morning skincare routine and as you can probably tell, I’m extremely happy with it. It’s only a 5 step process, and as long as you’re allowing each step to dry and sink in, you’re good to go. I hope this helps any of you who are on the hunt for some successful beauty buys! There’s so many products out there to choose from, so I’m alway happy to share with you guys what’s working for me. x
